A MARINE MOBILE SNIPER STRIKE TEAM

Gunnery Sgt. Jack Coughlin joined the Marine Corps in 1985, after an injury derailed his dreams of becoming a major-league pitcher. He would go on to become one of the Marines’ elite scout-snipers, and his service included a tour of duty in Somalia. However, he would make his mark during the liberation of Iraq, where he had the chance to pioneer the Mobile Sniper Strike Team concept.

AMERICA’S TOUGHEST SHERIFF PART III

This is the last part in a three-part series on the colorful Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona, widely known as the toughest Sheriff in America on illegal immigration. He may be and he may not be, as other counties are very active in trying to keep their neighborhoods safe and economically viable from the mess that human trafficking is making.

THE COVER SHOOT: COMBAT SHOOTING IN THE REAL WORLD

In the bush wars in southern Africa, small unit patrolling and combined arms tactics and procedures were refined in the crucible of a vicious war against substantially more numerous Communist-trained terrorists.

ASSAULT RIFLE BAN ON THE HORIZON

Liberals cannot let go of their fascination with, and fear (real or feigned) of, “assault weapons,” constantly introducing new legislation to ban them. During the 2008 campaign, Barak Obama said that he would like to restore and make permanent the federal ban on these firearms enacted in 1994 which automatically expired in 2004. His Attorney General, Eric Holder, has said the same thing.

THE MOVING WALL

You’ve all heard the story about the importance of the “dash” between the dates of a person’s birth and their death, as therein lies what happened during those dates.

PARA USA’S GI EXPERT

World renowned for his many outstanding small arms designs, John M. Browning achieved immortality in his timeless .45 ACP caliber Model of 1911 pistol. Now close to being a century old, the pistol that is Browning’s finest hour is more popular than ever before. However, as great as Browning’s first 1911 was, it is the many refinements since made to the pistol that have kept it so popular.

WELCOME TO THE USA

Para USA was not always known as Para USA. It may be better known to many readers as Para-Ordnance. Ironically, the company that took the M1911 to new heights was not from America, it was from Toronto, Canada.

COMMAND GUIDANCE

In the early days and weeks after Sept. 11, 2001, a small cadre of Americans with vast amounts of intelligence experience reported to the Langley, Va., headquarters of the CIA. These unsung heroes were dispatched to run operations against the al-Qaida conspirators who leveled the World Trade Center and struck the nerve center of the U.S. military.

COMMON SENSE

KHAN NESHIN, Afghanistan. We're with the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion in southern Helmand Province, just 75 kilometers from Pakistan, in "battle space" that was the heart of Taliban territory until a few weeks ago. When these Marines fought their way into this dusty district capital in July, the Taliban were stunned. No Afghan government or coalition authorities had been here since 2002.
