Forces Clear Taliban From Northern Afghan Province

More than 750 Afghan and international forces in recent days completed the largest operation to date in Afghanistan's Kunduz province, clearing the northern border area of hundreds of insurgent fighters, military officials reported. The combined forces conducted operations Nov. 1 - 6 in the province's northern region bordering Turkmenistan, killing more than 130 insurgents, including eight Taliban commanders.

Hurricane Hunters fly into Ida

The Air Force Reserve's Hurricane Hunters are flying non-stop into Hurricane Ida collecting critical weather data as the storm enters the Gulf of Mexico. The Hurricane Hunters of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron are assigned to the 403rd Wing and stationed at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. The team of reservists collected data to help determine the storm was gaining strength as it passed the Yucatan peninsula.

Combat ID technology evaluated in joint exercise

The largest exercise designed to examine advanced combat identification technologies that can reduce the risk of fratricide on future battlefields wrapped up recently. The U.S. Joint Forces Command exercise, Bold Quest 2009, was held at both Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. Afghan-international security forces conducted clearing operations Nov. 1-6 in the Chahar Dara District of the northern region of Kunduz province, killing more than 130 insurgents including eight Taliban commanders. More than 750 Afghan and International forces took part in the operation to stop insurgent activity and weapons trafficking in the Chahar Dara District. The team also disrupted the insurgent shadow governor in Kunduz province. The Afghan-International force provided humanitarian supplies to the affected villages after the operation.

Al Qaim SWAT arrests two suspected AQI members

The Al Qaim Special Weapons and Tactics unit, with U.S. forces advisors, arrested two individuals suspected of al-Qaeda in Iraq activities Nov 3. The arrests were made with a warrant issued by the Republic of Iraq Higher Judicial Council Magistrate Court. “This is the third operation conducted in the last month in the Ramanah District,” said Lt. Mukhlis, an Al Qaim SWAT commander.  “Local Iraqis are beginning to come forward with known locations of terrorists throughout the Al Qaim District,”
