ISAF Forces Injured While Conducting Search Operations

During a joint operation in western Afghanistan today, initial reports indicate more than 25 ISAF and Afghan national security force members were wounded. Members of the joint force were searching for two missing U.S. Army soldiers. The wounded service members were initially treated on the scene and subsequently flown to an ISAF medical facility for further treatment. "We are committed to taking every measure possible to rescue or recover our missing service members. We continue to do everything we can to find them," said U.S. Navy Capt.

Marines end wing-level operations in Iraq

Aviation operations have played an integral part of Marine Corps participation in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Operational Update, Nov. 6: Afghan-International Security Force Detains Taliban Facilitator in Kandahar; ISAF Casualties

An Afghan-international security force detained a group of suspected militants in Kandahar Province, including a senior Taliban facilitator, Thursday. The senior Taliban facilitator detained is believed to be responsible for financing and placing suicide bombers and IEDs in the area. This facilitator is also linked to Taliban leadership outside of the country. The joint security force targeted a compound near the village of Spin Kalacheh, southwest of Kandahar City, after intelligence indicated militant activity.

Iraqi Security Forces arrest five suspected terrorists

Iraqi Security Forces arrested five suspected terrorists today during two joint security operations in Baghdad and Sharqat. In northeast Baghdad, the 44th Iraqi Army, with U.S. advisors, searched two buildings in search of a Promise Day Brigade terrorist group leader who allegedly coordinates attacks against security forces operating in Iraq. Based on preliminary questioning conducted at the scene, three individuals are suspected of being Promise Day Brigade associates.

Army Major declared sole suspect in Hood shooting

WASHINGTON (Nov. 5, 2009) -- U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is believed to be the lone shooter of some 43 people on Fort Hood, Texas, and he survived being shot by a civilian police officer, the base commander said. In a televised press briefing tonight, Army Lt Gen. Robert Cone corrected earlier reports that said Hasan and the police officer, who shot him several times, were killed.

Air Forces Africa officials conduct senior leader engagement in Mali, Senegal

Airmen, U.S. Embassy and national defense officials from Senegal and Mali gathered during the latest U.S. Air Forces Africa senior leader engagement in Mali and Senegal Oct. 26 through 30. Brig. Gen. Michael W. Callan, the U.S. Air Forces Africa vice commander, spent the week visiting with key leaders and touring facilities for a firsthand look at the capabilities of the two nations' air forces. Thach Completes Around the World Deployment

The Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate USS Thach (FFG 43) returned to San Diego Nov. 5 after an independent five-month surge through all of the numbered fleets. Thach was operating in support of Task Group Iraqi Maritime (TGIM), which operates in the Northern Arabian Gulf (NAG) and is primarily responsible for defending the critical Iraqi infrastructure located in the area, as well as protecting the sovereignty of Iraqi waters. Thach and TGIM also trained Iraqi forces in maritime security operations.

Holloman Airman killed in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. (AFNS) -- An Airman with the 49th Fighter Squadron here died in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico on Nov. 4. Base officials here identified the Airman as Staff Sgt. David Booher. The incident is currently under investigation by the Mexican State Police.

War Crimes Court to Appoint Lawyer for Karadzic

A U.N. tribunal has ruled that former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic will be appointed a lawyer for his war crimes trial. Judges at the tribunal ruled Thursday the lawyer will represent Karadzic whenever he fails to appear in court. They also ruled that his trial before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia will resume on March 1, 2010.

ISAF Investigating Civilian Casualty Claim in Helmand Province

ISAF can confirm that shortly before 7:30 p.m., Nov. 4, a single surface-to-surface rocket strike took place near Babaji village in Lashkar Gah against a group of nine individuals whom were believed to be involved in emplacing an IED. ISAF forces were not aware of any civilians in the vicinity at the time of the strike. Only those involved in the IED emplacement were targeted. Through media reports, ISAF has been made aware of allegations of civilian casualties during an operation the evening of Nov. 4 in Lashkar Gah, Helmand province.

Operational Update, Nov. 5: Afghan-International Security Forces Kill, Detain Taliban Militants in Wardak, Khost; ISAF Casualty

An Afghan-international security force killed several enemy militants and detained a group of suspected militants in Wardak province while pursuing a Taliban facilitator linked to local senior Taliban leadership and responsible for managing the supply of IED components into the area Wednesday. The joint security force targeted a compound near the village of Babur Kheyl in Sayed Abad District after intelligence indicated militant activity. After entering the compound, the joint force received hostile fire and returned fire, killing the enemy militants.
