Seattle Times readers are in something of a huff about a story running Saturday about a federal judge’s ruling that Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his Maricopa County deputies have been profiling Latinos “at the expense of fighting crime.”

Cuomo to N.Y. Sheriffs: Keep Quiet About Gun Law

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo invited representatives of the New York State Sheriff’s Association to meet with him and discuss issues with the recently passed “SAFE Act.”  At least that’s what the sheriffs thought the meeting would be about.

New Vehicle From Boeing

When you think Boeing, you tend to think aircraft like the B-52 or C-17 – or these days, helicopters like the CH-47 Chinook and AH-64. But Boeing’s got a new ground vehicle in the works that could help Marines a lot!

The new Phantom Badger looks like a miniature jeep. The real advantage is that this vehicle fits in a V-22, and can help move items like the M120 120mm mortar, TOW anti-tank missile launcher, and other weapons. It can also help move supplies, and is easily able to be converted to various roles.

Operation in Paktiya Kills Insurgent Bigwigs

An ISAF operation in Paktiya province killed two senior Haqqani network leaders. Qari Azzam and Mukhlis were both involved in attacks on ISAF and Afghan forces. Azzam was also involved in coordinating mine and improvised explosive device emplacement in the local area, providing military equipment to insurgents and organizing kidnappings in order to extort money. Mukhlis interacted with high-level Haqqani leaders to provide guidance to insurgents.

HOLDER SIGNED OFF ON ROSEN WARRANT

Fox News Reporter Declared “Co-Conspirator”

The warrant for controversial e-mail and phone surveillance of Fox News Reporter James Rosen was approved by Attorney General Eric Holder. The warrant labeled Rosen an “aider, abettor, or co-conspirator” in violating the Espionage Act.

According to a report by NBCNews.com, the revelation comes after Barack Obama said, “Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs.”

Dismissal of lead ammo lawsuit a major victory

Yesterday’s dismissal of a federal lawsuit seeking a ban on ammunition containing “lead components” is a quiet but major victory for ammunition manufacturers, the firearms industry, hunters and recreational shooters, and in particular, home reloaders, and a loss for a couple of Northwest environmental groups.
