N. Korea Says South Will Pay 'Expensive Price' for Naval Clash

North Korea says South Korea will pay "an expensive price" for firing at a North Korean patrol boat on Tuesday. The official Rodong Sinmun newspaper published a commentary Thursday saying the clash in the Yellow Sea was not an accident, but instead was a "premeditated act of aggression" by the South.

Russian Gas: Pipelines, Politics and Money

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has warned Ukraine he will cut off the country's gas supplies if it siphons fuel from export lines. Mr. Putin made the statement in Moscow following a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann. His warning carries an implicit threat that Europeans this winter could again face shortages of gas they receive from Russia via pipelines that go through Ukraine.   Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has been discussing energy with European leaders much of this past year.

Pirates Seize Cargo Ship in Indian Ocean

Somali pirates have seized another ship, this one a cargo vessel with 22 crew members. The Greek-owned MV Filitsa was hijacked Wednesday in the Indian Ocean, 750 kilometers northeast of the Seychelles islands. The vessel was carrying cargo from Kuwait to South Africa.

Laghman NDS Officials Arrest IED Facilitator

Laghman National Directorate of Security officials arrested Qari Asadullah, a known Haqqani Network member, for possessing improvised explosive device-making materials in his home in Ja'alam village in the Alingar valley of Laghman province, Afghanistan, Nov. 5. Asadullah, a former sub-governor for Surk and Nangarhar provinces during the Taliban regime, is known to be an IED facilitator and builder operating in Laghman province. Marines with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, recently funded a well construction project to provide clean water for local Afghans. The project, funded by 1/5's civil affairs Marines, also created jobs in the community, as local Afghan workers were contracted to dig three wells. Army testing XM-25 'smart' high-explosive weapon for Soldiers

A Soldier successfully shoulder-fired a "smart" High Explosive Airburst, or HEAB, round for the first time Aug. 11 from the XM-25 weapon system at Aberdeen Test Center, Md. The Army plans on purchasing more than 12,500 XM-25 systems starting in 2012, which will be enough to put one in each Infantry squad and Special Forces team, according to officials at Program Executive Office-Soldier.
