Sri Lanka Justices to Hear Appeal on Presidential Candidate's Arrest

Sri Lanka's Supreme Court has cleared the way for an appeal to be heard challenging the arrest of former military chief and Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka. The Sri Lankan high court has cleared the way for a hearing later this month on a fundamental rights petition concerning the detention of former General Fonseka. Justices also ordered the government to allow him to have access to visiting family members and medicine. The political opposition contends Fonseka's arrest Monday on conspiracy charges was illegal.

South African President Under Pressure for Personal Misconduct

Churches and opposition leaders in South Africa are criticizing President Jacob Zuma's leadership after he admitted to fathering a child out of wedlock. The criticism follows Mr. Zuma's state of the nation speech which appeared to be overshadowed by the scandal. VOA, BBC, Deutsche Welle Condemn Iran for Blocking Broadcasts

Voice of America, the BBC and Deutsche Welle have condemned Iranian authorities for what they say is the illegal jamming of their broadcasts to Iran. Tymoshenko Refuses to Concede Ukraine Election Defeat

Afghan-International Security Force Are Conducting a Joint Investigation Into Incident in Paktiya

The Interior Ministry and the International Security Assistance Force are conducting a joint investigation in the incident in Paktiya province in the Gardez district near the village of Khatabeh today. A joint Afghan-international security force found the bound and gagged bodies of two women and dead bodies of two men in a compound during an operation last night.
