Vows to Continue Protests Until Morsi Restored
By Harold Hutchison

The Muslim Brotherhood, which supported former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi, is vowing to continue protests until he is returned to office. The vows come despite the most recent incidents of deadly violence that left 80 people dead and hundreds injured.

Morsi, deposed on 3 July, had taken power in 2012, a year after Hosni Mubarak was deposed after ruling for nearly three decades. He quickly became unpopular, and drew massive opposition from the Egyptian public.

The United States has been urging the military government in Egypt to exercise restraint. Morsi is being detained while the Egyptian government investigates ties to the terrorist group Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip.
