MOSLEM BROTHERHOOD LEADER ARRESTED
Did Obama Quietly Cut Off Aid?
By Harold Hutchison
The leader of the Moslem Brotherhood was arrested by Egyptian authorities as the military government continued its crackdown on the Islamist group. Mohammed Badie was taken into custody in a Nasr City apartment.
The arrest comes as the military government has come under increasing criticism for its crackdown on the group. Since Mohammed Morsi was deposed on 3 July, over 1,000 people have been killed.
According to media reports, there have been claims from a spokesman for Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) that the United States government is already suspending some aid to Egypt. About $585 million and some Apache helicopters are reportedly being held up.
