MORSI DETAINED OVER HAMAS CONTACTS
Ties with Terrorist Group in 2011 Prison Escape Scrutinized

Mohammed Morsi is being held while an investigation into his contacts with Hamas prior to a 2011 prison escape is being conducted. The former Egyptian President was removed from power on 3 July by the military.
According to media reports, Morsi’s detention was announced on the eve of protests scheduled for today. Since the ouster, over a hundred people have been killed in violent clashes. The Obama Administration recently held up delivery of four F-16 fighters to Egypt.
The chief of the Egyptian military has called on the Egyptian people to support a fight against “violence and terrorism,” which is seen by some as a prelude to a crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood.
