The Egyptian government continued its crackdown on the Moslem Brotherhood, arresting two more major figures of the organization after its leader, Mohammed Badie, was taken into custody earlier this week.
According to a report by VOA News, Mourad Ali, who served as a spokesman for the organization’s political arm, and Safwat Hegazy, a cleric tied to the group, were both arrested while allegedly trying to flee the country. Ali was arrested at the airport in Cairo, while Hegazy was captured near the Libyan border.
Meanwhile, Hosni Mubarak, the former president who was jailed by the Moslem Brotherhood after he was removed from power in 2011, was ordered to be released by an Egyptian court.
Hundreds of people have died in the violent protests since Mohammed Morsi was deposed on 3 July.
