COMPETING FOR BEST WARRIOR WITH THE M9

The competitors from the Army Reserve Best Warrior Competition are tasked with assembling an M9 pistol and then firing it at pop up targets at a range. Soldiers are judged on the number of targets they successfully eliminate.

COAST GUARD SEARCH AND RESCUE MISSION

The Coast Guard located and rescued two people Sunday, June 15, 2014, that were reported missing after a 21-foot fishing boat sank near Kiptopeke State Park. A Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., was able to locate one person who had swam ashore and found a second person in the water approximately 2 miles west of Kiptopeke. The Jayhawk crew hoisted both people into the helicopter and took them to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.

Italian and American forces were among those who rescued over 5,000 people this past weekend from the Mediterranean Sea. The migrants were fleeing conflicts across Africa and the Middle East.

VA Crises Getting Lost in Scandal Overload

President Obama is embroiled in two Veterans Affairs scandals: 1) fabricated documents and secret waiting lists for health care, with dozens of veterans dying while waiting for appointments; and 2) waiting lists for disability benefits. The former is now the subject of a criminal investigation opened by the Phoenix office of the FBI just days after the release of a bipartisan letter from 21 U.S. senators to the Department of Justice calling for a criminal investigation.

Man rescued off container ship by Coast Guard near Key West

A man suffering from abdominal pain was medically evacuated off a container ship by the Coast Guard approximately 20 miles west of Key West, Florida, June 8, 2014. A Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted, and transferred the individual to Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West where he was transferred in stable condition.

FROM HOSPITAL CORPSMEN TO FIELD MEDICAL CORPSMEN

Instructors with Field Medical Training Battalion West, teach students how to apply tourniquets and conduct hemorrhage control methods in a high stress environment. The Field Medical Training Battalion facility aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., is one of only two facilities that transforms a Navy hospital corpsman into a field medical corpsman equipped to travel with Marine units.

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki, a former Army Chief of Staff, handed in his resignation, which was accepted by Barack Obama. The resignation comes as new details of the growing scandal surrounding secret waiting lists at the Department of Veterans Affairs emerged.

While multiple VA hospitals are now found to have had secret waiting lists to hide the fact that veterans were not receiving timely medical care, the federal government apparently does have the time and energy to make giving Private Bradley Manning, convicted of leaking tens of thousands of documents to Wikileaks, a sex change operation, a priority.
