WASHINGTON (Nov. 5, 2009) -- U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is believed to be the lone shooter of some 43 people on Fort Hood, Texas, and he survived being shot by a civilian police officer, the base commander said.
In a televised press briefing tonight, Army Lt Gen. Robert Cone corrected earlier reports that said Hasan and the police officer, who shot him several times, were killed.
Airmen, U.S. Embassy and national defense officials from Senegal and Mali gathered during the latest U.S. Air Forces Africa senior leader engagement in Mali and Senegal Oct. 26 through 30.

Thach was operating in support of Task Group Iraqi Maritime (TGIM), which operates in the Northern Arabian Gulf (NAG) and is primarily responsible for defending the critical Iraqi infrastructure located in the area, as well as protecting the sovereignty of Iraqi waters.
Thach and TGIM also trained Iraqi forces in maritime security operations.
High-Speed Vessel (HSV) 2 Swift pulled into Nuoakchott Nov. 5, to conduct a series of military-to-military interactions and theater security cooperation engagements.
While in port crew members of the Swift and the commander of the task force Swift is assigned to will host tours and receptions, as well as participate in meetings designed to further the maritime relationship between both nations' navies. U.S. Ambassador to Mauritania, Mark Boulware, will also co-host a reception on Swift.

POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. (AFNS) -- Members of the 19th Airlift Wing from Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., took the lead at the Joint Forcible Entry Exercise 10-01 held here Oct. 25 through 29.
The purpose of the JFEX is to re-establish forcible entry capability through airpower by combining Army and Air Force training needs, said Col. Dave Kasberg, the 19th Operations Group commander and JFEX air mission commander.
"It's an integrated, joint focus with a common intel scenario," he said.
