ABC Ignores Its Own Story About Fort Hood Victims
By Harold Hutchison

ABC’s news programs on TV, including World News Tonight have not followed up on a story posted on the ABC News web site about the Pentagon’s denial of Purple Hearts to victims of the terrorist incident at Fort Hood. The medals have been denied because the attack has been categorized as “workplace violence” by the Obama Administration.

ABC had mentioned one issue surrounding the attack at Fort Hood in 12 February reports on Nightline and World News Tonight, but since then, there has been a general network news blackout on the problems faced by those wounded in the attack, according to a report from Newsbusters.org. A number of the wounded have sued the Obama Administration, claiming that the categorization has cost them financial benefits. One of those veterans, former Staff Sergeant Shawn Manning, has put his losses at over $70,000.

The attack, which left 13 dead, was allegedly carried out by Nidal Hasan, who had been in communication with Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical cleric who had ties to some 9/11 hijackers, and who was killed in a 2011 UAV strike.
