ISAF Takes The Fight to Insurgents

ISAF confirmed that Khaliq Mir, a facilitator for the Haqqani Network, was killed during operations in Afghanistan over the last three days. ISAF also confirmed the capture of two Taliban leaders and a Haqqani Network leader in that same timeframe.

One Taliban leader was captured in Kandahar province and was responsible for attacks on Afghan and ISAF forces. Another Taliban leader, described by ISAF as a “senior Taliban leader” in a release, coordinated and conducted direct fire assaults, ambushes, and improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, while also supplying weapons and IEDs to insurgents in Helmand province. A Haqqani Network leader was also captured.

ISAF’s Regional Command East reported disarming 16 IEDs, capturing ten insurgents. and locating one weapons cache. This takes RC-East’s totals since Friday to eleven insurgents captured, 29 IEDs disarmed, and eight weapons caches located.
