A combined Afghan and coalition security force discovered a weapons cache while on patrol in Tarin Kot district, Uruzgan province, Dec. 15.

The cache consisted of six rocket-propelled grenade warheads, 12 RPG motors, two stick grenades, more than 500 rounds of small arms ammunition and various improvised explosive device components. The security force confiscated the materials to be destroyed at a later date.

A coalition security force discovered a weapons cache at a construction site in Chahar Darah district, Kunduz province, Dec. 15. The cache consisted of two rockets, four 82 mm mortar rounds and seven RPG launchers. Afghan National Police secured the cache to be destroy the find at a later date.

East

In Achin district, Nangarhar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force discovered a drug cache during a routine patrol, Dec. 15. The cache consisted of 2,750 pounds (1,250 kilograms) of hashish, which was confiscated by the security force without incident.

EVENING

A combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban leader named Malawi Sahib in Baraki Barak district, Logar province, today.

The leader distributed weapons and ammunition to insurgent fighters for use in attacks against Afghan forces.

During the operation, the insurgent leader was found hiding inside of the compound. Upon being discovered, he lunged toward a member of the force and attempted to seize his weapon. Assessing an immediate threat, the security force fired, killing Sahib.

Today, in Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader. The leader received shipments of weapons from Pakistan and distributed the weapons to senior Taliban insurgent leaders in Helmand and Kandahar. The security force confiscated bomb-making material and detained multiple additional suspected insurgents during the operation.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator in Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, today. The facilitator conducts roadside bomb attacks and moves explosives throughout Panjwa’i and Dand districts. Multiple suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.

East

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during a operation conducted in Maidan Shahr district, Wardak province, today. The leader supplied weapons to fighters and coordinated attacks against Afghan forces.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator during a operation in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, today. The facilitator provided a safe haven for insurgent leaders and fighters in Zurmat district, and moved fighters and weapons. Two additional suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.

In Sabari district, Khost province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Haqqani leader today. The leader directs attacks against Afghan forces and distributes explosives throughout Sabari district. Two suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.
