Two illegal immigrants have been charged with being in possession of firearms. Jose Beltran-Bermudez and Yazmin Arvayo-Palafox were arrested in connection with an effort to smuggle 222 rifles and five pistols into Mexico.

According to a report from the Associated Press, the firearms were seized in Laredo, Texas.

Authorities have declined to state how the two accused men acquired the firearms. Possession of a firearm by an illegal immigrant is a federal crime punishable by up to ten years in federal prison.
