Female Murder-Suicide Bombers Feared in Run-Up to Sochi
By Harold Hutchison

As the 2014 Winter Olympics draws closer, Russian authorities are hunting for multiple “black widow” bombers. At least one of these women has publicly vowed to avenge the death of her husband at the hands of Russian forces.

According to a report by the Washington Free Beacon, Ruzana Ibragimova’s husband was killed last year by Russian forces which have been fighting an Islamist insurgency in the Caucasus region. Other media outlets reported that the total of “black widow” bombers could be at least four.

One of two attacks in Volgograd last month that killed 34 people was believed to have been carried out by one such “black widow.” Russia has deployed over 40,000 security forces in a “Ring of Steel” around Sochi. The United States has pre-positioned C-17 cargo planes in case American citizens need to be evacuated from the location of the Olympics.
