DUMB GUN LAWS IN NEW YORK

From the perspective of a long time Second Amendment activist, I have been forced to conclude that New York has some of the most Draconian and dumb gun control laws. Admittedly, there is competition from California, Illinois, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. They also have some real dandies when it comes to ineffective and stupid laws involving firearms.

Could Gillette ‘cooperation’ with Grassley probe bring down ATF hierarchy?

Here is something that is not speculation: Gillette’s cooperation is steeped in hypocrisy. It was Gillette’s name that surfaced early in Grassley’s investigation, in a Jan. 31 letter the senator wrote to Melson, posted here by my colleague, David Codrea. In that letter, Grassley wrote, “I understand that Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) George Gillette of the ATF’s Phoenix office questioned one of the individual agents who answered my staff’s questions about Project Gunrunner.

Deadline Nears On BATFE Shotgun Ban Comments

As we reported on Jan. 28, May 1 is the deadline for public comments concerning a shotgun importation ban that has been proposed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. A working group within the BATFE has recommended that any shotgun (semi-automatic, pump-action or any other) that has any one of 10 specific features should be banned from importation, on the grounds that such shotguns are not “generally recognized as particularly suitable for a readily adaptable to sporting purposes.”

BREAKING: Grassley warns ATF, takes gloves off on 'stonewalling'

Senator Charles Grassley, ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, took the gloves off yesterday with the publication of an Op-Ed piece that alleges he is being stonewalled by at least five federal agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in his probe of ATF’s “Project Gunrunner.”

And today, Sen. Grassley sent another letter to the ATF asking for details on what guidance the agency gave to its field agents about responding to Grassley’s requests.

Bellevue v. Bloomy: Pricing a right beyond reach; Why people hate Congress

Compared to the price of fingerprinting by the King County Sheriff’s Department, the cost of getting fingerprinted in New York City so one can subsequently pay $340 to exercise the right to keep a handgun in one’s own home is astronomical.

'Gunrunner' probe will not be deterred by 'ongoing investigation' stall

Issa’s ‘Gunrunner’ probe will not be deterred by ‘ongoing investigation’ stall

A congressional probe into the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ “Project Gunrunner” controversy will not be stalled or derailed by the Justice Department’s assertion that it cannot hand over all documents sought by an April 1 subpoena, a congressional committee spokesman indicated to this column late yesterday.

Bellevue v. Bloomy: SAF lawsuit against NYC highlights ‘culture gap’

Yesterday’s announcement of a federal lawsuit against New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the City of New York, filed by Bellevue’s Second Amendment Foundation, is earning accolades from gun rights activists, and it also highlights the vast cultural difference between the Empire State and Pacific Northwest.

BREAKING: Bellevue v. Bloomberg as SAF sues over ‘excessive’ NYC gun permit fee

The Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation has once again flexed its legal muscle on the far side of the country, suing New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the City of New York and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in federal court over the city’s excessively-high permit fee simply to keep a handgun at home.

Senate to Consider Bill to Fill Federal Gun Positions with Political Hacks

Shortly, the U.S. Senate will consider legislation to take a number of key gun-related offices in the Department of Justice and remove them from the requirement of Senate confirmation. The legislation is sponsored by anti-gun zealot Charles Schumer (D-NY) and weak-kneed Republican Lamar Alexander (R-TN).

S. 679 would give Barack Obama the ability to fill major gun-related Department of Justice slots with anti-gun partisans, without the pesky inconvenience of having to comply with the Constitution's requirements for Senate confirmation.

Consider the following:
