Statement from Chris W. Cox on U.S. Senate Defeat of Manchin-Toomey-Schumer Amendment

Today, the misguided Manchin-Toomey-Schumer proposal failed in the U.S. Senate. This amendment would have criminalized certain private transfers of firearms between honest citizens, requiring lifelong friends, neighbors and some family members to get federal government permission to exercise a fundamental right or face prosecution. As we have noted previously, expanding background checks, at gun shows or elsewhere, will not reduce violent crime or keep our kids safe in their schools.

GOA Alert: Gun Control Could Die Today

Gun Control Could Die Today!

It would have been better if we had won the motion to proceed last week and didn't have to spend this week fighting one Harry Reid bribe after another - all of which are intended to lure Senators into passing gun control.

But we believe that our grassroots’ pressure has kept Senators from giving in to the bribes. And, as early as today, there could be a series of pivotal votes on gun amendments.

Could gun legislation locomotive leave the tracks?

Some sources sounding taps on gun legislation

Despite the Seattle Times editorial page call for the U.S. Senate to break what it called “the National Rifle Association’s destructive grip on gun-violence politics,” it appears that some are preparing to sound Taps over the Senate’s attempt to pass tough new gun restrictions in response to the Sandy Hook attack.

Terrorist attack v. mass shooting reactions differ

Following Monday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon that left three dead and at least 140 wounded, President Barack Obama told a stunned nation, “We still do not know who did this or why. And people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before we have all the facts.”
