By Harold Hutchison
The Greek government has been cracking down on Golden Dawn, a new-Nazi political party that garnered 7 percent of the vote in the last Greek election. At least five members of the party serving in the Greek parliament have been arrested.
According to media reports, the crackdown began after the stabbing death of Pavlos Fissas, a left-wing musician. Members of the Golden Dawn party were accused. Many of those arrested are being charged with being members of a criminal organization.
The Golden Dawn party was founded in 1985. The Greek government is not only passing new laws regarding hate speech, but also a law targeting the Golden Dawn party’s funding.
