DOD Follows “Green” Agenda Despite Sequester
By Harold Hutchison

The Defense Department has spent over $397 million on environmental protection since 2003 including $3.5 million to protect a gopher, a grant that continued despite the sequester, which has resulted in tens of thousands of DOD employees being furloughed.

The various projects around the country have also been used to protect butterflies and tortoises. Much of this funding has been used to buy up land around military bases. In one case, $12 million has been spent to buy 2,600 acres near Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Should the DOD be cutting back on “green” agenda items during the filibuster, especially if it can reduce or eliminate furloughs?
