IG Report Slams Security Lapses
By Harold Hutchison

An inspector general’s report has revealed potentially disastrous holes in the security surrounding military bases, including dozens of convicted felons getting unauthorized access to the bases.

According to Breitbart News, the Department of Defense’s Inspector General found that 52 felons had access to military bases on a regular basis. The report cited budget cuts put into place prior to the sequester. The felons’ access ranged from 62 days to over 1,000 days.

The security flaws stem from budget cuts, preventing the proper vetting of contractors. That issue has arisen not only from the shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, but also with regards to former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, who stole documents about NSA operations across the globe.
