ONE STORM EQUALS 100 MILLION AMERICANS WITHOUT POWER?

The “Space Weather” Threat
By SOF

Over a third of the American people could lose electric power – and the blackout could last for months or more. That is the frightening warning from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, part of the Department of Homeland Security.

According to a report by the Washington Free Beacon, that sort of outage is very possible should the United States be hit by a space weather phenomenon known as a solar storm, as it was in 1859 and 1921. Those two storms had minimal effect due to the fact that electricity was not as widespread then as it is now.

WILL NUKES RETURN TO EUROPE?

Deployment Considered In Light of Russian Cheating
By SOF

Could American nuclear missiles be returning to Europe? That possibility is very distinct in light of revelations that Russia has been cheating on the 1987 Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

According to a report by the Washington Free Beacon, the Department of Defense is considering re-deploying ground-launched cruise missiles to NATO should the Russians fail to comply with the INF Treaty. In accordance with that treaty, the United States dismantled MGM-31C Pershing II ballistic missiles and BGM-109G Gryphon cruise missiles.

Benghazi Congressional Investigations Roll On, Barely

By Roger Aronoff
Accuracy in Media

The latest hearing by the House Select Committee on Benghazi was held on December 10th, as Congress is about to head out the door for Christmas. The hearing was unfortunately still focused on the far-from-independent State Department Accountability Review Board. It’s time to move on. There is plenty to investigate. The critics of any further investigation are citing the latest report from Rep. Mike Rogers’ (R-MI) House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) to argue that the whole investigation should be shut down.

That’s the narrative previously promoted by Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), who also referred to the flawed HPSCI report’s assertion that it is a “definitive” accounting in his opening statement at Wednesday’s hearing..

ON THE BRINK, ONE CLOSE CALL WITH SUICIDE, A VET's HAUNTING STORY

A Vet’s Story
By SOF

Stephen Carlson had kept a gun with him for the nearly two weeks he had been on leave from a tour in Afghanistan in 2009. He swigged from a bottle of bourbon and chain-smoked. Finally, he put his 45-caliber pistol in his mouth.

“I remember how the Rem-Oil tasted, and thinking about how quick it would be. The hollow-point bullet in the chamber would explosively blow out my brain stem and that would be that,” he wrote at taskandpurpose.com. However, he didn’t go through with it.

KIFARU SAWTOOTH

The efficiency of a tarp with the stand-up room of a Tipi, this hybrid is a great combo of weight savings & comfort. At 7+ feet tall, you get plenty of headroom, and can easily get dressed, stretch or pull in a couple of camp chairs. All at just 4 1/2 pounds that shrinks down into a tiny, man-carryable package. The semi-conical shape has no big flat sides to catch wind or snow, and has proven its mettle in sustained winds of 50 mph, and gusts of well over 70 mph. SHOOTING THE LIPPARD .45 AT 1000 YARDS!!!

By Harry Claflin

Earlier this year, an old running mate of mine, Robert Brown, publisher of Soldier of Fortune magazine, gave me a call and asked if I would like to come to NRA Whittington in Baton, New Mexico, for a week of shooting guns and fine fellowship. What a deal! Of course, I jumped at the opportunity. It had been several years since I had shared a beer with Robert and would not miss the chance. Over breakfast I asked my wife if she minded if I spent a week in New Mexico shooting guns and good fellowship with Uncle Bob. Mary looked over her cup and gave me that look. You did say New Mexico, did you not?

After 42 years of marriage, 25 of that overseas and Robert dragging me off to really neat places in the world, needless to say she was a little suspicious. The day came to leave and she watched me pack my kit and way too many guns, camo uniforms and field gear. Like a good Marine’s wife, she just smiled, gave me a kiss and told me she would be here when I got back.

Senate Intelligence Committee Republicans and CIA Push Back on Feinstein Report
By SOF

Republican members of the Senate Intelligence Committee issued a rebuttal to the roughly 500-page “study” conducted by the Democratic majority on the committee. The Republicans, who pulled out of the Senate Intelligence Committee investigation in the fall of 2009, took issue with many of the assertions in Feinstein’s hit job.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the Republican report, signed by Senators Saxby Chambliss (R-GA - pictured right), Richard Burr (R-NC), James Risch (R-ID), Dan Coats (R-IN), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Tom Coburn (R-OK), states “We have no doubt the CIA’s detention program saved lives and played a vital role in weakening al-Qa’ida while the Program was in operation.”
