CRISIS CONTINUES IN EGYPT
Both Sides Plan Demonstrations
By Harold Hutchison
Both supporters of the new Egyptian government and the Muslim Brotherhood are planning to hold massive demonstrations. Since the ouster of Mohammed Morsi on 3 July, there have been violent clashes that have left over 50 people dead.
The Egyptian military has ordered the arrest of high-ranking members of the Muslim Brotherhood, an action that has been criticized by the Obama Administration. However, the Obama Administration is continuing deliveries of military aid, including four F-16 Fighting Falcons.
U.S. law requires that aid be cut to countries where the government has been displaced by a coup, but the Obama Administration has refused to characterize the takeover in Egypt as one.
