The American consulate in Lahore, Pakistan has been evacuated of all “non-emergency personnel” in the wake of a threat. This came as a pair of attacks in Quetta over the last two days killed 36 people.
The consulate evacuation comes as a number of American embassies were closed in 19 countries for most of this week. The State Department issued a new travel alert urging Americans to postpone non-essential travel to Pakistan.
“We do not have an announcement at this time on when the consulate will reopen,” Meghan Gregonis, a spokesman for the American embassy in Islamabad, said.
One attack in Quetta targeted the funeral of a police officer killed while he was with his children, killing 30 people. The second attack targeted a celebration of Eid a-Fitr.
