Roadside Bomb Attack Hits Motorcade
By Harold Hutchison

The motorcade of the President of the Somali Transitional Government was allegedly attacked with a roadside bomb. The terrorist group al-Shabab claimed it carried out the attack, although the Somali government disputed the claim.

According to a VOANews.com report, the alleged attack occurred while the president’s motorcade was en route to the city of Merca in the southern part of the country. The Somali government sometimes uses decoy motorcades to thwart attacks.

One Somali soldier was wounded in the attempt on the Somali president. Al-Shabab was driven from Mogadishu, the capital of the country on the Horn of Africa, but it still carries out occasional attacks.
