ChiComs Warn America Over Internet
Communist China has warned the United States not to support efforts to expand Internet freedom. The Foreign Ministry claims America's support of Internet freedom is only a "pretext" to support interference in Chinese affairs.
The warning came after a campaign by ChiCom internet censors to delete posts promoting a speech this past Tuesday by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, in which she announced a $25 million effort to protect bloggers, and urged governments to end censorship.
The ChiCom government claimed that internet freedom still existed, but a spokesman for the American embassy in China told VOANews.com that he was unable to post to the embassy's website on Thursday. The Chinese government has also blocked access to social networking sites, including Twitter and Facebook.
