Four Vessels Sighted near Disputed Islands
By Harold Hutchison

Four Chinese Communist vessels were sighted within 12 nautical miles of the Senkaku Islands. This marks a breach of the territorial waters of Japan, which claims those islands.

The Chinese have become more aggressive in recent territorial disputes with Japan and the Philippines over the last year, often sending naval vessels an aircraft into disputed waters in the South China Sea and East China Sea. Even as the United States makes a re-orientation of military forces to deal with potential crises in Asia, there have been recent cuts in the Navy, including the retirement of USS Enterprise (CVN 65)

Is it time for America to rebuild her naval forces to back up allies in the region, and should USS Enterprise be overhauled and returned to service in light of the growing crisis?
