THE CONTINUATION OF THE VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT “MILITARY WIPING OPERATION”
AGAINST DEGAR CHRISTIANS IN THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS

On August 22nd of 2010 the Vietnamese government launched a large scale military operation involving thousands of armed soldiers, riot police, security police and local police to participate in what they called “tieu quet” which means (wipe out) Degar Christians who do not join the Evangelical Church of Vietnam (ECVN).

During this Wiping Operation, they attacked 32 Degar Christians’ villages.

EU: Iran Ready to Resume Nuclear Talks

The European Union says Iran has agreed to resume talks over its controversial nuclear program after November 10. The announcement was made by the EU's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on the sidelines of a key European summit.

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton spoke to reporters briefly in Brussels, where leaders from the 27-member block wrapped up a two-day summit.

Former Argentine President Nestor Kirchner Dies

Former Argentine President Nestor Kirchner has died at age 60. The husband of current President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner died after suffering a heart attack in the southern city of El Calafate. Nestor Kirchner presided over Argentina's recovery from a severe economic crisis and backed those seeking justice for human rights violations committed during military rule.

Suspected US Drone Strikes Kill 6 in Pakistan

Pakistani officials say two suspected U.S. drone strikes have killed at least six people in the country's northwest.

Wednesday's attacks took place in the North Waziristan tribal region. Officials say a pre-dawn drone strike on a house killed at least two suspected militants in the Spin Wam area. Hours later, a second strike targeted a vehicle in the Datta Khel district, killing at least four suspected militants.

The United States has increased its use of drone missiles against Taliban and al-Qaida-linked militants in northwestern Pakistan.

Oil-Rich Abyei Part of North, Says Sudan Ruling Party Official

A prominent member of Sudan’s governing National Congress Party (NCP) said it seems officials of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) are only interested in “the richness of the oil” in the disputed Abyei region.

Professor Ibrahim Ghandour, secretary for political affairs of the NCP said his party has documentary evidence that proves that the oil-rich but disputed Abyei region is part of the north.

Sudanese Envoy Warns of War if Referendum Goes Ahead in Abyei

Sudan's U.N. ambassador is warning the country could slip back into civil war if a referendum goes ahead in the oil-rich Abyei region in January without consent from Khartoum. Meanwhile, the U.N. peacekeeping chief said more international troops will not be able to prevent a return to war, only a political settlement could accomplish that.

Strikers Lift Blockade at France's Largest Refinery

Acute fuel shortages continued to plague France Monday even as striking dockworkers ended their blockade of the country's biggest oil port, Marseille.

A quarter of France's gas stations have run out of fuel as most of the country’s 12 refineries remain shut. But oil industry officials said blockades have been cleared at most of the port's fuel depots.

Workers across France are protesting government plans to raise the minimum retirement age from 60 to 62.

Finance Minister Christine Lagarde said Monday the strikes are costing the nation's economy as much as $560 million per day.
