History has been made in Iraq and Afghanistan, and unless you are a security contractor or special ops troop, your long months away from home and your family are quickly coming to an end. Our servicemen and women have fought an extraordinary fight against impossible odds and reestablished America’s military prowess around the world.

We’ve learned a great deal in the last 10 years of war, like the immediate power of miscommunication from the battlefield, or the importance of committing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) drone aircraft to an area before going in blind.

"Recent news items about the use of Army medical evacuation, or MEDEVAC, helicopters in Afghanistan contain troubling information. The reporting suggests that putting red crosses on MEDEVACs, and not arming them somehow, is putting injured Soldiers' lives at risk. The facts do not support these assertions for several reasons.

Representative Allan West (R-FL), a combat veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, spoke up on the controversial video in which Marines allegedly urinated on dead Taliban. West said in a statement to the Weekly Standard, “All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?

We are personally very disappointed in the McClatchy Newspaper’s decision to publish the article, “Marines Promoted Inflated Story for Medal of Honor Winner” alleging that the Marine Corps embellished Cpl. Dakota Meyer’s story. We firmly stand behind the Medal of Honor process and the conclusion that this Marine rightly deserved the nation’s highest military honor.
