JINSA Honors American Military Heroes

By Roger Aronoff
Accuracy in Media

Last month the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs held its annual event honoring six young military heroes for their bravery in the war on terrorism. The six represent each of the five branches of the U.S. military and the U.S. Special Operations Command. These Grateful Nation awards have been held since 2003, and I have been fortunate enough to attend just about all of them.

The FBI has warned that the terrorist group that calls itself the Islamic State is trying to target American military personnel through social media accounts. For Dakota Meyer, so much the better.

“If ISIS is using social media to track me, that’s a dream come true in my book,” the Medal of Honor recipient is quoted as saying by the Washington Free Beacon. “Hopefully one of these assholes actually shows up,” he added. “They’ll definitely get more than they want at my place!”

Van T. Barfoot died

We got this e-mail forwared to us... remembering one badass American by the name of Van T. Barfoot. It's been edited for grammar, and we added the full text of his citation for the Medal of Honor. Barfoot died in 2012, over two years ago, but his courage, in World War II and more recently, deserves to be remembered.

Remember the guy who wouldn't take the flag pole down on his Virginia property a while back?

You might remember the news story several months ago about a crotchety old man in Virginia who defied his local Homeowners Association, and refused to take down the flag pole on his property along with the large American flag he flew on it...

REMEMBERING THE NAVAL BATTLE OF GUADALCANAL

Callaghan’s Night Action
By Harold Hutchison

Tomorrow will mark the 72nd anniversary of one of the most unsung naval victories in American history. Off the coast of Guadalcanal, an outnumbered, outgunned American naval force held off a planned bombardment by the Imperial Japanese Navy – saving countless Marine lives.

Lead by Rear Admiral Daniel Judson Callaghan, the force of two heavy cruisers, a light cruiser, two anti-aircraft cruisers, and eight destroyers faced off against two modernized battlecruisers, a light cruiser, and fourteen destroyers. The American destroyers were further crippled by a lack of reliable torpedoes.
