Combined forces net weapon, IED component caches

Afghan National Army and International Security Assistance Forces discovered weapon and improved explosive device component caches in southern and eastern Afghanistan in separate combined patrols over the past four days.

During a dismounted patrol Nov. 21 and 22 in Kandahar province, forces found two weapon and IED component caches in Zharay district.

Haqqani Network leader captured in Khost overnight

Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Haqqani Network leader operating in Shamul district of Khost province during an operation in the province yesterday.

The targeted individual is known to coordinate and conduct attacks against Afghan National Army and coalition forces.

Marine honored with Bronze Star on Corps' birthday

Master Sgt. Blaine M. Jones, artillery man and fire support chief for 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, received the Bronze Star with combat distinguishing device, America's fourth-highest awarded combat decoration, for service during his deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The award ceremony was held Nov. 10, the Marine Corps' 235th birthday in front of a formation of Marines from 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd MarDiv., his family and Marines from 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd MarDiv. who he worked alongside during his deployment.

NATO helicopters did not cross into Pakistan

International Security Assistance Force is aware of a claim by the Xinhua News Agency that two NATO helicopters crossed into Pakistan's air space Tuesday, Nov. 23.

According to operational reporting no ISAF helicopters crossed over the border or fired into Pakistan.

Afghan, coalition forces nab Taliban leader in IED sweep in Kandahar

Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban improvised explosive device cell leader in Kandahar province yesterday.

The operation, one of several last night in which IED leaders and networks were targeted in southern Afghanistan, comes in the wake of two recent and separate IED explosions in which local Afghans were the casualties.

Security forces targeted the individual known for planning and conducting IED attacks on coalition forces. The individual was also reportedly involved with an IED explosion in which a child was injured earlier this month.

Haqqani IED facilitator, a top ISAF target, captured overnight

Afghan and coalition forces captured a Haqqani Network improvised explosive device facilitator during an operation in Khost province yesterday.

The facilitator, a top target for Afghan and coalition forces, was responsible for the movement of IED materials for insurgent groups to conduct their attacks in Sabari district. The security force detained the facilitator earlier this year, but he was released after four months in captivity and immediately resumed his nefarious activities.

Iraqi security forces learn checkpoint medical skills

Combat medics assigned to A Co., 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, provided training on how to properly splint fractures and broken bones at a checkpoint in Wanah, Iraq, Nov. 15.
