Iraqi security forces learn checkpoint medical skills

Combat medics assigned to A Co., 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, provided training on how to properly splint fractures and broken bones at a checkpoint in Wanah, Iraq, Nov. 15.

Iraqi Army soldiers and Kurdish Security Force soldiers huddled around as the medics gave the class, demonstrating techniques on Pfc. Myron Macklin, a signal support systems specialist from Petersburg, Va.

Security forces capture Taliban IED network leader in Helmand

Afghan and coalition forces detained a key Taliban improvised explosive device leader and several suspected insurgents in the Lashkar Gah district of Helmand province yesterday.

The targeted IED cell leader, based in the Dand district of Kandahar, is responsible for numerous violent attacks on local Afghan citizens and coalition forces.

The individual is reportedly responsible for several terrorist activities including planning a heavy-machine gun ambush on coalition forces; harassment of Afghan citizens; and multiple incidents of IED training, planning and facilitation.

ISAF confirms key Taliban leader killed in Farah

The International Security Assistance Force confirmed Afghan and coalition forces killed a key Taliban leader in the Bakwah district of Farah province Nov. 20.

Mullah Hafiz Janan was the Bakwah district shadow governor and a key leader involved in foreign-fighter facilitation and networking. He maintained ties with other senior Taliban leaders and supplied weapons and training to foreign fighters.

ISAF confirms capture of Taliban leader, IED expert

The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of an active Taliban leader during an operation in Baraki Barak district of Logar province Nov. 20.

The leader is a weapons and improvised explosive device expert responsible for indiscriminate IED and small arms fire attacks on coalition forces in the district.

Based on intelligence sources, coalition forces tracked a group of insurgents to a remote area in Baraki Barak district. After careful planning to avoid civilian causalities, coalition forces conducted an air strike, killing one insurgent.

Senior Taliban leader targeted, numerous insurgents killed, detained

Afghan National Security Forces and International Security Assistance Forces conducted an operation to detain a senior Taliban leader in Now Zad District, Helmand province, Thursday.

The senior Taliban leader is a senior facilitator of improvised explosive devices and a key conduit of information and financial support between provincial senior Taliban leadership and senior Taliban leadership in Pakistan. He has also planned, coordinated and executed IED attacks against ANSF and ISAF.

Afghan, coalition forces uncover weapons in southern Afghanistan

Several weapons caches were uncovered in Helmand, Uruzgan and Kandahar provinces today during separate combined patrols.

During a combined dismounted patrol in Helmand province, Afghan National Army and International Security Assistance Forces found a weapons cache in the Marjeh District.

Taliban leadership, IED operatives targeted, several detained

Afghan and coalition forces detained several suspected insurgents during three operations aimed at capturing Taliban leadership throughout Afghanistan yesterday.

All three operations were conducted peacefully and without civilian causalities. The security force has conducted more than 93 percent of their operations without shots fired this month.

A joint security force detained two suspected insurgents during an operation targeting a Taliban foreign-fighter facilitator in Khash Rod District, Nimroz province.
