Taliban IED expert confirmed captured

The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of a Taliban leader for the Baraki Barak area of Logar province during a Nov. 22 operation.

The targeted individual acted as an improvised explosive device and weapons expert for the Taliban while also planning and executing attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Baraki Barak.

Haqqani, Taliban leaders targeted throughout Afghanistan

Afghan and coalition forces detained more than 15 suspected insurgents during three security operations over the last 24 hours.

A joint security force detained numerous suspected insurgents during their search for a Haqqani Network facilitator in Khost province yesterday.

The facilitator provides various weapons and ammunition to multiple insurgent groups operating in Sabari district.

Army unit flies new unmanned aircraft in Iraq

An Army unit deployed to Camp Taji, Iraq, is shaping the future of the Army’s unmanned aircraft systems program with a handful of its newest aircraft, the MQ-1C Gray Eagle.

The unit, known as Quick Reaction Capability 1-Replacement 1, deployed in June to use the Gray Eagle in combat before the Army fields the aircraft to all of its aviation brigades in the next few years. It is one of two deployed Army units currently flying the Gray Eagle, and it is the only one using it in Iraq.

Combined forces net weapon, IED component caches

Afghan National Army and International Security Assistance Forces discovered weapon and improved explosive device component caches in southern and eastern Afghanistan in separate combined patrols over the past four days.

During a dismounted patrol Nov. 21 and 22 in Kandahar province, forces found two weapon and IED component caches in Zharay district.

Haqqani Network leader captured in Khost overnight

Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Haqqani Network leader operating in Shamul district of Khost province during an operation in the province yesterday.

The targeted individual is known to coordinate and conduct attacks against Afghan National Army and coalition forces.

Marine honored with Bronze Star on Corps' birthday

Master Sgt. Blaine M. Jones, artillery man and fire support chief for 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, received the Bronze Star with combat distinguishing device, America's fourth-highest awarded combat decoration, for service during his deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The award ceremony was held Nov. 10, the Marine Corps' 235th birthday in front of a formation of Marines from 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd MarDiv., his family and Marines from 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd MarDiv. who he worked alongside during his deployment.
