Afghan, coalition forces net weapons, IED components

Afghan National Army and International Security Assistance Forces discovered weapons and improved explosive device component caches in southern and eastern Afghanistan during separate clearing operations over the past 24 hours.

Afghan, coalition forces target Taliban leadership overnight

Afghan and coalition forces conducted two security operations in southern and eastern Afghanistan last night, detaining numerous suspected insurgents.

Afghan and coalition forces detained several suspects in Helmand province while targeting an individual who, according to intelligence reports, was the intended successor of two leaders detained in the area Oct. 18 and Nov. 15.

Live fire exercise showcases IA commando training successes

The assault on the enemy fighting positions during the live fire exercise began with the explosion of a simulated improvised explosive device (IED).

Iraqi Army soldiers assigned to 3rd Company, Commando Battalion, 11th Iraqi Army Division quickly exited their humvees and conducted 5- and 25-meter checks to ferret out potential IED indicators at the site of the halt. Then, upon receiving notional enemy contact, the squad took up firing positions on line and tactically advanced toward the enemy under the command of 2nd Lt. Muhammed Saadi.

Afghan forces engage insurgents, destroy explosives in Kandahar

An Afghan-led force killed more than 20 insurgents and destroyed more than 40 improvised explosive devices in northwestern Kandahar province during a three-day operation that ended Nov. 29.

The operation consisted of forces from the Afghan Border Police and Afghan National Army commandos, partnered with soldiers from Special Operations Task Force – South.

As the forces cleared their initial objective, area citizens provided information leading to further exploitation of the surrounding areas. The information came during evening shuras between area residents and the partnered force.

Afghan and coalition security forces killed several insurgents and detained one suspected insurgent during an operation targeting a Haqqani senior leader in Khost province yesterday.

The targeted individual coordinates suicide attacks in Sabari district as well as improvised explosive device attacks against coalition forces operating in the area.

Insurgent leader targeted, numerous suspected insurgents detained

An Afghan National Security Force and International Security Assistance Force patrol killed one insurgent and detained numerous other suspected insurgents during an operation targeting an insurgent leader in Nahr-E Saraj district, Helmand province, yesterday.

The targeted Taliban leader is an improvised explosive device facilitator and an expert in the planning, coordination and construction of IED's. He is known to have participated in numerous IED attacks against ANSF and coalition forces.
