ISAF Joint Command operational update

Numerous insurgents were killed during an International Security Assistance Force patrol in Kunar province and several weapons and drug caches were discovered by Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces in northern and southern Afghanistan today.

An ISAF patrol was engaged with rocket-propelled grenades by insurgents in Sar Kani District and called for air support. After gaining positive identification direction, air weapons team on scene engaged, killing numerous insurgents.

Initial reports indicate no civilians were injured and no damage was reported in the operation.

Afghan, coalition forces capture Haqqani IED facilitator in Khost

Afghan and coalition forces captured a Haqqani facilitator operating in Terayzai and Sabari Districts during a security operation yesterday.

The targeted individual facilitated the movement of weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive device materials for insurgent groups in the area.

The security force followed intelligence reports to a compound in Terayzai district to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint force cleared and secured the buildings.

Forces root terrorists out of Helmand, Kandahar provinces

Afghan and coalition forces continued to disrupt terrorist activities and put pressure on Taliban networks during two security operations in Helmand and Kandahar provinces yesterday.

Afghan and coalition forces captured a terrorist leader and two additional suspects, during an operation in Kandahar’s Arghandab District.

The targeted individual was a leader in the Senjaray Taliban network responsible for coordinating attacks on coalition forces. He had direct involvement in and knowledge of improvised explosive device attacks in the district.

Forces continue to deny sanctuary to terrorists in southern Afghanistan

Afghan and coalition forces continued efforts to secure major travel routes and hinder Taliban efforts to seek sanctuary during two security operations in Zabul and Kandahar provinces yesterday.

The joint security team detained several suspected Taliban members during the operations as they targeted known insurgents in the two provinces.

Forces detained one suspect as they targeted a kidnapper who also facilitates improvised explosive device attacks along Highway 1 in Zabul. Highway 1 is a key link connecting many of southern Afghanistan’s provinces.

Coalition forces target Taliban leader with precision air strike

Coalition forces conducted a precision air strike in Badghis province yesterday targeting a senior Taliban leader active in Qal’ah-ye Now, Murghab and Muqor districts in Badghis province, killing several insurgents and wounding one more.

The senior leader is responsible for numerous attacks against International Security Assistance Force and Afghan National Security Force elements, as well as kidnapping for ransom operations within Badghis.

Training Iraqi mortar teams a success

CONTINGENCY OPERATING SITE MAREZ, Iraq -- Iraqi soldiers assigned to the 6th Brigade, 3rd Iraqi Army Division, graduated from mortar training provided by Soldiers assigned to 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Dec. 7.

The Iraqi soldiers were given extensive mortar training by 1-9 Cav. Reg. Soldiers over a one-month period.

"The soldiers here completed the full course of mortar training," said Pvt. Jeremiah Klatt, assigned to A Troop, 1-9 Cav. Klatt, taught the Iraqis how to use U. S. mortar systems.

Afghan, coalition forces confirm leader's capture

The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of a Haqqani leader in Khost province Dec. 7.

The targeted individual facilitated the movement of improvised explosive device materials and coordinates emplacement.

The security force targeted a remote compound in Bak district to search for the Haqqani leader. Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the compound.

Afghan, coalition forces capture another Taliban leader in Wardak

Afghan and coalition forces captured a Taliban leader active in northern Ghazni and western Wardak provinces during an operation in Wardak yesterday.

The targeted individual conducted improvised explosive device and ambush operations targeting Afghan and coalition forces. He also intimidated Afghan civilians into not voting in previous elections.
