3-401st keeps Buffalos rolling

Searching out Improvised Explosive Devices is the daily mission for members of the 264th Route Clearance Company, Battalion Route Clearance Package 38, based at Forward Operating Base Shank in eastern Afghanistan. Their mission puts them in frequent danger, but their services are essential for the movement of vehicles and supplies.

Afghan, coalition forces target Taliban leaders in south, east

Afghan and coalition forces targeted a Taliban leader responsible for improvised explosive device attacks against coalition forces, detaining two suspected insurgents during an operation in Nimroz province yesterday.

Forces conducted the operation in search of the Taliban leader in the Dilaram area of the province. He is also involved with the facilitation of suicide bombers into Afghanistan and leads subordinate Taliban insurgents operating in the Gulistan and Bakwa districts of Farah province.

Afghan, coalition forces detain Taliban IED facilitator for Kandahar City

Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban improvised explosive device facilitator who operates in Kandahar City during a joint security operation in Kandahar province yesterday.

The Taliban facilitator was responsible for construction of IED's and coordinating IED attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He is known to have close contacts with other Taliban leaders in the area.

USS Abraham Lincoln Launches 1,000th Sortie In Support of OEF

A day after returning to sea from a port visit in Dubai, UAE, the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) launched its 1,000th sortie mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) Dec. 28 in the Arabian Sea.

Lincoln pulled in to the United Arab Emirates Dec. 23-27 with a total of 999 sorties flown supporting OEF and 76 sorties in support of Operation New Dawn (OND) during the ship's 2010-2011 deployment to the Middle East.

I thought you would find this interesting. It is some of the statistics from WW11 about the air force. The number of planes, the types of planes and the pilots are all quite different from how the Air force of today. While you read through this, remember the men who fought and died for our freedom. Most of them were very young. They gave the last full measure of devotion, paid with their lives, to protect our country and secure our freedom. It was a long time ago but the cost to them was the same as war has always been.

ISAF confirms Taliban leader's status from precision air strike

The International Security Assistance Force confirmed Sayid Rahman, a Taliban senior leader, was killed during a precision air strike targeting a group of armed insurgents in Pachir wa Agam district in Nangarhar province yesterday.

Sayid Rahman was the senior leader in a group responsible for planning and conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition elements. Recent reporting indicated the group was coordinating the use of suicide bombers within the district and may have been planning an attack at an Afghan border checkpoint.

Forces capture key attack planner, continue pressure in Kandahar

Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban improvised explosive device facilitator during a joint security operation in Kandahar province Dec. 29.

Forces conducted the operation targeting a Taliban IED and narcotics facilitator operating out of the Panjwa’i district province detaining the Taliban facilitator and two suspected associates.

He coordinated and transported money and narcotics across the Afghanistan-Pakistan border in exchange for explosive components. He has extensive contact in planning, delivery and attacks with senior IED facilitators.
