ISAF Joint Command operational update

Two Afghan civilians, including a child, were killed and six others seriously wounded in two separate insurgent attacks in southern and eastern Afghanistan today.

In Washer District, Helmand province, Afghan civilians came under fire from several insurgents. As a consequence of the attack, one Afghan civilian was killed and three others were injured. All the wounded were evacuated by Afghan civilians to an International Security Assistance Force medical treatment facility.

Airmen build foundation of Iraqi air force

In an effort to strengthen the strategic partnership between Iraq and U.S., Airmen assigned to the 821st Expeditionary Training Squadron here are helping the Iraqi government and its people develop a stable and self-reliant air force for their nation.

Airmen with the 821st ETRS work daily with the faculty and students at the Iraqi Air Force Training School to help it become a self-sufficient training pipeline for the Iraqi air force and Ministry of Defense.

ISAF Joint Command operational update

Numerous insurgents were killed by International Security Assistance Forces in eastern and southern Afghanistan over the past 24 hours.

In Logar province, an ISAF patrol declared an imminent threat when they spotted two armed insurgents moving in a historical fighting location in Charkh district. After gaining positive identification, coalition forces engaged the enemy position with small arms fire, killing the insurgents.

US Soldiers teach Iraqi Army proper ambush reaction techniques

CONTINGENCY OPERATING SITE MAREZ, Iraq -- Soldiers assigned to 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, trained Iraqi soldiers to react to an enemy ambush at Al Ghuzlani Warrior Training Center (GWTC), here, Jan. 5.

Cavalry scouts instructed Iraqi soldiers of 1st Battalion, 11th Brigade, 3rd Iraqi Army Division, fundamental techniques for properly reacting to ambushes from various distances.

Afghan, coalition forces detain Taliban leaders in Paktiya

Afghan and coalition forces detained several Taliban leaders in Paktiya province along with one suspected insurgent during a security operation in the province yesterday.

The targeted Taliban leader for Gardez district had direct contact with other Taliban leaders in the area. He had taken over a planning role for upcoming insurgent operations due to the detainment of other Taliban leaders in the area.

ISAF Joint Command operational update

Two Afghan civilians were killed in an improvised explosive device attack insurgent caused in Pusht-e Rod district, Farah province, Jan. 11.

An Afghan National Army patrol responded to the scene of the blast to investigate the incident. During the exploitation of the blast site the Afghan Army patrol came under fire from numerous enemy positions. Afghan forces returned fire dispersing the insurgents.

Numerous insurgents were killed by International Security Assistance Force in southern and eastern Afghanistan over the past 24 hours.

ISAF confirms status of Taliban leaders

The International Security Assistance Force confirmed two Taliban leaders have been killed while a third Taliban leader was detained during Afghan and coalition operations in Kunar and Kunduz provinces Jan. 8 and 9.

Qari Baryal, al-Qaida-associated Taliban leader was killed in a coalition air strike Jan. 7 in Kunar province. He was an active attack planner who led at least 25 fighters. Additionally, he maintained close contact with al-Qaida leaders and facilitators.
