ISAF Joint Command operational update

Numerous insurgents were killed by International Security Assistance Force during separate clearing operations in southern and eastern Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, Jan. 25.

In Helmand province, during separate operations, two ISAF patrols were engaged by insurgents with small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Musa Qal’ah district. After gaining positive identification, coalition forces returned fire and called for air support. The air weapons team supporting ground forces engaged the enemy position, killing several insurgents.

IAAC adds four Mi-171E helicopters to inventory

The Iraq Army Aviation Command accepted delivery of four new Mi-171E helicopters at its headquarters in Taji, as two were delivered Jan. 16 followed two more Jan. 23.

This latest delivery brings Iraq Army Aviation Command's total inventory of Mi-171E helicopters to 14, as part of a foreign-military-sales purchase made by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense. The delivery was part of an ongoing deal coordinated with the help of U.S. Forces-Iraq's Iraq Security Assistance Mission.

Weapon techs give coalition forces tactical advantages in southern Afghanistan

Since October, approximately 15 ordnance Marines with Support Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 3, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward) have repaired and returned more than 500 weapon systems to coalition units operating in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.
In Afghanistan, coalition personnel face an unforgiving terrain that can damage their equipment. The primary function of CLB-3’s ordnance Marines is to support infantry and artillery units operating in Helmand province by repairing weapon systems that cannot be fixed at the organizational level and returning them in a timely manner.

Chinese Pianist Plays Propaganda Tune at White House

A Chinese pianist who performed at the state dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao last week chose an anti-American propaganda song from the Korean War. The song is "My Motherland" from a popular Chinese movie, Battle on Shangganling Mountain.

Several insurgents were killed and numerous others were detained by Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces during separate clearing and security operations in southern Afghanistan over the past 24 hours.

In Helmand province, several insurgents tried to enter an ISAF observation post in Sangin district. After verbal warnings and gaining positive identification, coalition forces engaged the enemy position, killing one insurgent.

ANSF, ISAF find 5 weapons caches in Arghandab

A joint Afghan National Security Forces and International Security Assistance Forces found and cleared five major weapons caches Jan. 23, while conducting joint clearing operations in Arghandab district.

The joint operation was led by the Afghan National Police and included Afghan National Army and ISAF soldiers, who worked together in a continued effort to drive Taliban from the area and restore security in the region.

When coalition forces on the ground can't afford to wait for a convoy or are out of reach for a helicopter resupply, the KC-130J provides the flexibility and capability of making a mass aerial delivery to the front lines.
The Marines of Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352, Detachment A, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), completes section aerial deliveries to ground forces in Helmand province regularly. A section aerial delivery is comprised of two aircraft making a supply drop.
