ISAF Joint Command morning operational update

Afghan National Security and International Security Forces captured a Taliban leader, killed one armed individual and detained several suspected insurgents during security operations in Kandahar City, Kandahar province, yesterday.

The leader was responsible for the distribution of vehicle borne improvised explosive devices to fighters throughout Kandahar City. He also coordinated the receipt of weapons and materials from associates outside of Afghanistan, and distributed them to various Taliban members in the province.

Some people fear the sight of blood or even the hint of a needle, but not the medics of 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment. They jump at every opportunity to improve their medical and life-saving skills.

All the medics of 6th Sqdn., 9th Cav. Regt. are trained to level-one care standards per Army regulations. These level-one skills allow the Soldiers to set up and run an independent aid station at the squadron to treat injuries; especially those that threaten life, limb, or eyesight.

Western Officials: Iranian-Made Rockets Seized From Taliban in Afghanistan

Western officials said Wednesday that NATO forces in Afghanistan seized powerful Iranian-made rockets from the Taliban last month.

The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity, and cited an incident that took place February 5 near the border with Iran and Pakistan.

They said NATO troops that day encountered a Taliban convoy in southern Nimruz province and discovered about 50 122-millimeter Iranian-made rockets.

The leader was responsible for coordinating improvised explosive device attacks throughout Sabari district and was responsible for supplying weapons to the network for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

Soldiers taught a group of experienced Baghdad River Patrol Policemen new life saving techniques during a hands-on training exercise, March 7, at Forward Operating Base Prosperity.

Healthcare specialists assigned to the 547th Area Support Medical Company began the class with an instructional period where they showed examples of different life saving procedures.
