Special Forces clear 9 IEDs from southern Afghan district

U.S. Special Forces, along with Afghan Commandos and Afghan National Civil Order Police, cleared nine IEDs during routine patrols over a two day period ending May 7, in Panjwai District, Kandahar province.

In the last seven days, the partnered force has cleared a total 16 roadside bombs in Panjwai, including these latest IEDs.

“The local populace was extremely receptive in each of the villages visited,” said a Special Operations Task Force – South team leader working in Panjwai. “Once [Afghan] forces arrived, they came out and greeted the element excitedly.”

Afghan forces repel failed insurgent attack in Kandahar

Afghan National Security Forces in partnership with International Security Assistance Force repelled multiple attacks by insurgents throughout Kandahar City May 7.

The attacks began with a combined rocket-propelled grenade attack and small arms fire on the Kandahar Provincial Governor’s palace.

Several additional attacks followed on the Afghanistan National Chief of Police Headquarters, the Transportation Police Headquarters, Police Sub-station One and various ANSF and ISAF buildings in Kandahar City and the Arghandab River Valley.

'Saber' Soldiers Conduct Map Reading Course with Iraqi Partners

Iraqi unit boundary and hierarchical changes have caused 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, United States Division - Center to become partnered with new units.

Most recently, 1st Mechanized Brigade has become attached to the 4th Federal Police Division. In an effort to increase cooperation and aid the brigade, the squadron\'s B Troop has conducted several training courses with their new counterparts. The latest such effort was a map reading course, conducted on April 25 and 26.
