Could Syria Strike Re-Ignite Cold War?
By Harold Hutchison

Russian president Vladimir Putin could possibly re-evaluate a decision to suspend a contract to deliver S-300 missiles to Syria. The move is one of several possible responses to a potential American strike on Syria.

According to a report by Fox News, Russia, which has supported Assad’s regime for years and his father’s for decades before that, is also considering replacing any equipment. Military analyst Ralph Peters noted that “Putin will live up to what he says.”

During an interview, Putin had said, “We have a contract for the delivery of the S-300s. We have supplied some of the components, but the delivery hasn't been completed. We have suspended it for now. But if we see that steps are taken that violate the existing international norms, we shall think how we should act in the future, in particular regarding supplies of such sensitive weapons to certain regions of the world.”

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed a resolution authorizing the use of force against Syria by a 10-7 vote.
