SOF asked Lt. Col. Allen West, who served in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom to comment on recent reports that Egypt will be trying 20 al-Jazerra journalists on terrorism-related charges.

Here are his comments:
"I am a firm believer in our Constitutional first amendment rights. And it is important to have a free press in order for a free society to have access to truth. The problem is when the fifth estate becomes an instrument of propaganda, especially if that propaganda runs contrary to the values and rule of law of a Nation. We all are aware that the Qatar based Al Jazeera network has been a mouthpiece for Islamic terrorism. Therefore considering their subversive nature actions supporting jihadist and Islamist causes, it does not surprise me that Egypt is sending a message in jailing several staff members of Al Jazeera. The military backed interim government of Egypt is embroiled in a life and death struggle against the 'granddaddy' of modern day Islamic terrorism, the Muslim Brotherhood, which is nothing more than an organized, suit wearing Islamic terrorist organization. It was the Muslim Brotherhood who was responsible for the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. The leadership in Egypt knows the Brotherhood and its objectives and seemingly are not tolerating complicit actions from a media source, Al Jazeera. Would we do this in America, no, but then again our internal jihad at this time is non-kinetic and stealth in nature. In Egypt it is a full blown war."
