After an extensive search, the Navy has ended search and rescue efforts at 5:15 a.m. (+11L) Sept. 14 for the pilot of one of the F/A—18C Hornet aircraft that crashed Sept. 12 approximately 250 nautical miles off the coast of Wake Island.

Updated 0100, Japan Standard Time, Sept. 13, 2014. The pilot of one of two F/A—18 Hornets that crashed Sept. 12 while operating from USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) is in fair condition and receiving medical treatment aboard the ship. Search efforts continue for the missing pilot.

A U.S. Marine Corps CH—53E Super Stallion helicopter assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) crashed at 2:00 p.m. (GMT), today, at sea in the Gulf of Aden as it attempted to land aboard USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19).
