The reconstruction of a bridge destroyed in August is nearing completion due to the combined efforts of local government agencies, contractors and ISAF service members. Efforts to rebuild the Saracha Bridge along Highway 7 in Nangahar province began immediately after flash floods destroyed it and cut off all traffic from Torkham Gate to Jalalabad, Aug. 31. Air operations in Afghanistan: Asmar Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Canadian Medic Returns to Kandahar to Mentor Afghan National Army

Surviving just one tour in Southern Afghanistan is no mean feat. Many of the world's best and brightest soldiers have fought and died here, and still more return home irrevocably shaken. There are among us, however, soldiers whose mettle has been cast in the furnaces of war, and who feel it is their duty to return, having emerged battle-tested and knowledgeable. Army Cpl. Corey Sagstuen, a combat medic currently serving in a Canadian Operational Mentor and Liaison Team, is one such soldier.

IJC Operational Update: International Security Assistance Force Denies Civilian Casualty Claim in Lagham; ISAF Casualty

An Afghan-international security force killed seven militants and detained four others in Laghman province early today while pursuing a Taliban IED facilitator responsible for several suicide attacks in the region. "We are aware of civilian casualty allegations, however there are no operational reports to substantiate those claims of harming civilians, including women and children during this operation," said Navy Capt.

US Navy Divers Continue to Assist in Afghanistan Recovery Operation

A team of U.S. Navy divers from Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 2, Company 2-3, assisted in the recovery operations of the body of a U.S. Army sergeant from the Murghab River in northern Afghanistan Nov. 29. The MDSU 2 divers, who are attached to Commander Task Force (CTF) 56, deployed from Bahrain to support Operation Hero Recovery. IJC Operational Update, Dec. 7: Air Strike Hits Stronghold in Konar

An international security force conducted an air strike today and destroyed a known Taliban stronghold consisting of bunkers and prepared defensive positions in Konar province. The security force targeted the stronghold near the village of Tsangar Darah in the mountainous Watapur District after intelligence sources indicated militant activity at the location. In other operations today, an Afghan-international security force in Khowst province detained a Haqqani IED cell leader and several other militants after searching a compound.

Operational Update, Dec. 4: Insurgents Detained in Kandahar

An Afghan-international security force detained several suspected militants in Kandahar province today after searching a compound known to be used by a Taliban facilitator. The joint security force targeted the compound near the village of Nurayo Kariz, approximately 10 miles northeast of Kandahar City in Arghandab district. The force searched the compound without incident and detained the militants, including the Taliban facilitator.

Nimitz Resumes Combat Operations Over Afghanistan

USS Nimitz (CVN 68) and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11 returned to the North Arabian Sea today, to resume combat missions supporting Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) following a port visit in the Arabian Gulf. Aircrews provide close air support and reconnaissance to coalition forces in Afghanistan, launching from the deck of Nimitz hundreds of miles away. Indiana National Guard soldiers from the 38th Infantry Division's Task Force Cyclone ensure Forward Operating Base Salerno is maintained properly. IJC Operational Update, Dec. 2: Taliban Compound Struck; Militants Detained in Kandahar; ISAF Casualty

International forces conducted an air strike against a Taliban commander in a remote area of eastern Afghanistan yesterday. The Taliban commander was the target of the precision strike in Kunar province's Dara Noor District, which occurred in an open area away from civilian compounds or infrastructure.

IJC Operational Update, Dec. 1: Reconstruction in Zabul Province; Casualty Update

The ISAF Zabul Provincial Reconstruction Team, mid-way through its nine-month tour, has completed nearly 40 projects this year. Operational for several years, the Zabul PRT assists the Afghan government with improving stability through governance, reconstruction and development. The Zabul PRT is a diverse organization with joint, interagency and international components. "The PRT It is one of the principal counter-insurgency units in the region and part of the larger ISAF effort to bring stability to Zabul province," said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Afghan-ISAF Forces Build Community Ties in Helmand Province

Marines with Brigade Headquarters Group, Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan, strengthen security aboard Camp Leatherneck and in the surrounding settlements every day, and in many different ways.
