Afghan and coalition forces found several caches in Kandahar province Thursday, including three in the Zharay District.

In Zharay a local Afghan brought six 155mm empty shell casings to an International Security Assistance Force compound and told coalition forces the location of additional weapons.

Afghan and coalition forces went to the location and recovered three improvised explosive devices, one grenade, hundreds of 7.62mm rounds, two mortar rounds and one voltage meter. The cache was brought back to the ISAF compound for destruction.

An Afghan and coalition force conducting a dismounted patrol discovered three 100-pound bags of homemade explosives in Zharay. A safety cordon has been established and an explosive ordnance disposal unit will evaluate the material.

During an independent dismounted patrol in Arghandab District, coalition forces found two 5-liter jugs of homemade explosives, one 2.5 liter jug of homemade explosives, three rocket-propelled grenades, numerous 7.62mm rounds and one blasting cap. The cache will be destroyed by coalition forces.
