Former Acting IRS Commissioner Drops Bombshell
By Harold Hutchison

The former acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service admitted that while many conservative groups were harassed by the agency, “progressive” groups were not similarly targeted. This revelation comes as the Treasury Department’s Inspector General admitted that senior Treasury officials knew of an investigation into IRS practices as early as June 2012.

The testimony from Steven Miller, who was connected to a Clinton Administration-era controversy over alleged targeting of conservative groups like the NRA, came during hearings held by the House Ways and Means Committee.

During the hearing, Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI), the GOP’s nominee for vice-president in the 2012 election, asked Miller, “How can we not conclude that you misled this committee?” after reviewing a timeline of statements and communication with the committee.

Senator Max Baucas, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and who earlier had called for IRS investigations of Tea Party groups, said he had “a hunch that a lot more is going to come out, frankly. It's broader than the current focus. And I think it's important that we have the hearings, and I think that will encourage other information to come out that has not yet come out.”
