Iran nervous since strike on Syrian nuclear site

Printer Friendly VersionPrinter Friendly VersionSend to a FriendSend to a FriendHaaretz.com has cited reports from Der Spiegel that the relationship between Iran and Syria has become more tense, and that the increased tensions have affected relations between the two rogue countries. Iran has demanded the return of nuclear material sent to Syria prior to the 2007 raid, while Syria has refused unless payment has been rendered. Iran has refused payment on the grounds that Syria has, since the Israeli strike, left the material sitting around unused. Tensions have reached the point where Syrian President Bashir Assad contemplated replicating the strategy used by Muammar Qaddafi in the wake of Operation Iraqi Freedom, to admit the nuclear program to the West. Assad would not have mentioned Syria's collaboration with North Korea and Iran, prompting North Korea to threaten an end to cooperation on chemical weapons.
