STEVE SCHREINER FOR NRA BOARD

Steve Schreiner, recently elected to fill a vacancy on the NRA Board of Directors, is running for a full term. Be sure to vote for Steve Schreiner and to pass the word on to your friends and family.

GUN RIGHTS VICTORY!

In what may be the last advancement of the right to keep and bear arms on the federal level from the Bush Administration, the Department of the Interior has issued new rules that recognize state-issued right-to-carry permits

in National Parks and wildlife refuges. For the next four years, it is going to be rough…

OBAMA’S AG PICK: ANTI-GUN ZEALOT HOLDER

On 1 December, Barack Obama named Eric Holder as his choice for Attorney General. In 2008, he was among those who signed a brief supporting Washington D.C.’s gun ban when the Heller case was pending. He also served as Deputy Attorney General under Janet Reno, and was one of those who pushed gun control from 1997 until the Bush Administration took over. What did Holder support? Back in the Clinton Administration, he was all for waiting periods and federal licensing for handguns, not to mention gun rationing and shutting down gun shows.

Thankfully, with Saxby Chambliss returning to the Senate for another six years, the Republicans have just enough votes to maintain a filibuster.

NEW GEAR FOR COMBAT MEDICS

The Army recently broke out new gear that troops and medics will use in the unfortunate event they or their buddies get wounded in action. One of the items is the new Combat Gauze bandage, which outperforms the present HemCon bandage. Better yet, Combat Gauze runs a lot cheaper (under $30, compared to $88 for Hem-Con). Medics will also have an easier time stopping bleeding with the replacement of QuikClot with Woundstat. We hope these pieces of gear don’t get much of a workout.

ALF TERROR STRIKES AGAIN!

The Animal Liberation Front launched an attack targeting a medical researcher at UCLA this past November. However, in this case it seems the ALF torched the wrong car, and in the process damaged two others. Earlier that month, an animal rights activist was arrested for violating an injunction against posting the personal information of medical researchers at UCLA. This follows the arson attack in August on a medical researcher’s house in Santa Cruz.

SILVER STARS FOR FATHER AND SON

It is rare for a father and son to have medals presented to them on the same day, and it is even rarer for it to be the same medal. But on 28 November, Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan Harris, a UH-60 pilot with the 101st Airborne

Division (Air Assault), received the Silver Star for valor in Afghanistan. Through a video teleconference, his father, former Staff Sgt. Phil Harris, was presented his Silver Star for heroism during the Vietnam War.

To both of the Harris heroes: WELL DONE!!

MANCHURIAN COMPUTERS?

Recently, the Pentagon has learned that some of the computer parts they have purchased are not exactly the genuine articles. These include phony network cards and chips, some of which have found their way into Air Force F-15 and Marine Corps AV-8B+ jets. Many of these phony parts have come from the master of phonies, China. Already, the flood of phony parts has lead to rumors of “Manchurian micro-chips.” While the existence of these “Manchurian chips” is disputed, hundreds of counterfeit Cisco routers have been seized, and those could be compromised to allow the ChiComs (or other malefactors) access to American secrets.

CHICOMS MAKING TROOP-KILLER BULLETS?

Rowan Scarborough writes in Human Events that the ChiComs have been trying to duplicate the armor-piercing ammo used by our troops. That’s bad news, all right, but it gets worse: This ammo is now turning up among the bad guys our troops are fighting. The ChiCom rounds have been found in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Thankfully, it seems that the Defense Department is already trying to counter this new ChiCom ammo. But how is it getting there from the People’s Republic of China? And what else may be slipping into the bad guys’ hands?

WREATHS FOR THE FALLEN

Jim Freeland passes us a very moving story. In 1991, Worcester Wreath Company had a number of extra wreaths. The company’s owner, Merrill Worcester, made the decision to donate these wreaths to decorate graves at Arlington National Cemetery. He has done this every year since then. Well done, Mr. Worcester!

ANTI-GUN GOVERNOR BUSTED!!

Illinois governor and anti-gun zealot Rod Blagojevich racked up quite an anti-gun record during his time in the Illinois capitol and also in the U.S. House of Representatives before that. His efforts included pushing for a ban on magazines that held more than 10 rounds and trying to destroy gun shows. Blagojevich was recently arrested and indicted on federal corruption charges. Allegedly, among other things, he was trying to sell off the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama.
